“Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co.” is a fun retail space that supports 826 Seattle: a non-profit creative writing/tutoring center for kids, ages 6-18.
The original retail environment’s aesthetic approach was led by artist Web Crowell and Belle & Wissell principal Gabe Kean (focused on media components), with many contributors. With a truly unexpected grassroots approach, GSTS helps customers gear up for their interplanetary adventures—while a teaching center thrives behind the retail facade.
Belle & Wissell led the design and development of the a/v projects including three integrated media displays, two in-wall viewers, and two projections—creating an atmosphere of exploration and wonder.
A featured original component was a projected 3D Map of the Known Universe. Web Crowell developed a tentacled beast, animations, and Rocketman film content to support the installations.
Project Accolades:
The Seattle Times “Work of Many Helps 826 Win Big Award,” 2011
The Stranger Books: Dave Eggers “Better Than Robbing a Bank: Man Oh Man, We Didn’t Expect This,” 2005
